  • School is back in session.  Classes began August 14th.  We welcome several new faculty members, including principal Cheryl Keim, formerly of Horton High School, Spanish teacher Barbara Hubert, music teacher Terry Zuelow, and para-professional Faye Cyr.

  • The Clifton-Clyde K-18 Red Sox team won the State Tournament against Plainville, 3-0.  This is the first state title for K-18 since 1975.  The Clyde Pee Wee Boys Baseball Team placed 1st in the District Tournament in Clyde, defeating the Knights of Concordia, 10-4.

  • Despite temperatures near 100 degrees and an absence of air-conditioning, people filled the St. Joseph Cathedral and took “their” seats for a brief mass held by Father John Walesky as part of the St. Joe reunion on July 26th.  Heat turned to rain, but spirits were not damped as activities moved to the Clyde VFW for an evening of karaoke and dancing.

  • Children turned out in large numbers at the City Park for the culmination of the summer reading program on July 25th and Science Fun Day on August 16th.  See Activities.

  • The Randolph-Decker Library now provides public access to wireless Internet as well as four desktop computers in carrels.  These improvements were made possible by a grant from the Wood Charitable Trust.

  • A record number of 10 or 11 houses sold in Clyde this past month.

  • The Clyde convenience will reopen and Gluten-Free Essentials has moved back to town.  For these stories, see Business News.

  • Plan to attend the 109th Watermelon Festival Aug 29th through Sept 1st.  You can find a full schedule of events here. If you would like information on registering for the demolition derby, softball tournament, or golf tournament, contact us.

  • Work to convert the former Clyde Grade School into apartments will begin in late September.  Owner Steve Foutch will meet with area contractors and the city council on the 17th.  The sale of Elk Creek Manor to Foutch Brothers should occur in late October at which time renovations can begin there.  Both “affordable housing” apartments projects are targeted for completion by next summer.  For more information, “contact us”.

  • The Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka has awarded Clyde a $25,000, two-year grant through Elk State Bank to stimulate new business activity, and improve business profits through workshops, subsidized one-on-one mentoring, and a young professionals network.  The grant also will help with marketing to attract new residents.  The fall workshop schedule will be posted on the website by September 1st.
